Population genetics by the Fisher-Haldane-Wright model

This applet calculates the genotype and allele frequencies over several generations according to the Fisher-Haldane-Wright model.
Enter the fitness parameters - either absolute fitnesses () or as - and the initial zygote frequencies in the spaces provided. The zygote and adult frequencies over the next 100 generations are shown in the spreadsheet to the right, along with the mean fitness . A plot of the frequencies is shown on the axes. Use the checkboxes below the graph to choose which frequencies to plot. Some questions to investigate:
  • when does one allele become extinct and the other fixed?
  • when does the population reach an equilibrium with both alleles present?
  • what is the effect of changing ? Changing ?
