Project 1: Geometry - Exploring Volume

Author:
Justin Butler
Topic:
Geometry, Volume
Directions: 1. Open the interactive figure in Geogebra and click on the arrow button to be able to move the sliders. 2. You can also change the look of the figure by clicking on the two end blue points. 3. Start the figure with the sliders in the far left, following positions: number of sides is 3, the height is 0, and the length of each side is 0.5.

Questions: 1. What happens when you ONLY move the “length of each side” slider? (The figure grows exponentially) 2. What can you do to the figure to make the volume increase or decrease? (Move the “height of the figure” slider.) 3. How does adding a side change the volume? (As long as the height of figure is greater than zero, adding a side increases the volume of the figure.) 4. Can you make the volume of the prism 215.06 cubic units? (All three sliders must be set at 5.)
