Starbucks Problem- Brad and Trever- Weiland

Nick and Tyler both received a phone call from Mr.Weiland asking them to hang out. Mr.Weiland was thirsty so he said to meet him at Starbucks, because he loves Pumpkin Spice Lattes (white girl). Nick was exactly 12 miles due east and Tyler was 7 miles due South. Nick starts to run to Starbucks at a constant rate of 5 miles an hour. Tyler hops on a Rip Stick and wiggles his way to Starbucks at a rate of 1.5 miles per hour.
a. At what rate are they getting closer when half an hour has passed?
b. After one hour, Tyler finds the optimum wiggle in his hips and increases his rate to 5.5 miles an hour and Nick runs even harder at a rate of 6 mph. At what rate are they getting closer after an hour and a half.
