Instruments

This study is an intervention study that follows a design-based research methodology. The study will be implemented in two phases: The pre-intervention phase and the intervention phase. For the pre-intervention phase, three questionnaires, namely: Demographics questionnaire, Instructional Practices in GeoGebra Questionnaire IPGQ (Form 1), Barriers in Using Technology Questionnaire BUTQ (Form 1), were administered to the participating in-service secondary mathematics teachers to measure their current integration practices of the GeoGebra software in their teaching and the barriers that affect their technology integration.

The questionnaires

The Demographics, practices, and barriers questionnaires were developed by the researcher, were reviewed by three professors in mathematics education and were piloted and found to have internal validity of more than 0.9 Cronbach alfa.

The intervention phase

The intervention phase is made up of two iterations.  The first iteration, teachers will be given ready-made GeoGebra activities to be implemented in their classes; the second iteration, teachers will adapt already made GeoGebra activities and/or will make their own GeoGebra activities. At the beginning of each iteration the instrument Lesson Selection Criteria semi-structured Interview LSCI will be administered, then at the end of each iteration, three instruments will be used. These interviews aim to measure the effect of the intervention on teachers practices. In addition, these interviews aim to measure how the zones mediated the effect of the intervention and to what extent.

Criteria

For the practice instrument, the values were 0 (never use GeoGebra), 1(sometimes use GeoGebra), and 2(most of the time use GeoGebra). The average of all the questions was calculated. An average within the range [0, 0.7[ is considered low integration level, an average between [0.7,1.3]  is moderate integration level, and between  ]1.3, 2] a high integration level. Similarly the average for each zone was calculated in the zone questionnaire that consists of 27 questions.
