Volume of a Sphere Calculated With Disks
The surface of the above sphere can be draw in the x-y plane by the function . This function is graphed on the axis to the left. To estimate the volume of the sphere, one can use a method similar to RAM. Slide the green slider to the right gradually and describe what you observe as n increases. (The number above the green slider is not n, but it is being used to calculate n. N will be the number of sections you see the sphere cut into.)
Move the slider to dx=0.8. Try dragging the sphere around in different directions. How do you think we could estimate the volume of this sphere?
What would we use as the height and radius of each cylinder?
