This applet illustrates what happens when you add, subtract, multiply or divide functions. Two functions can be chosen by clicking the appropriate next button. Then an additional function can be created by adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing the first function with the second function. The resulting function is shown in solid green. Adjusting the value will show the resulting value.
Study the domain and range of the new function.
Can the domain of the new function include points not in the domain of the other functions?
Can the there be points in the domain of both original functions not valid for the domain of the combined function?
What can you say about the range of the functions?
