Exploring Algebraic Transformations

The Absolute Value Function: f(x) = |x|

1. Use the sliders one at a time to examine the affect of n, h & k on the transformed absolute value function = n|x-h| + k. Record your observations. 2. Compare the parent function to the transformed function when n=2, h=-4 & k=1. Record your observations. 3. PREDICT what will happen to the parent function when n=-0.5, h=2 & k=-3. Use the sliders to check your prediction. 4. Write a summary of conjectures based on your observations. 5. Food for thought: What happens when n=0? Why?
