Deriving Standard form of a Sphere
- Heidi Clawson
By Heidi Clawson
Observe the Geogebra applet for a sphere. Rotate and/or zoom in on the graphic to see the two triangles better. Use the Pythagorean theorem and the two triangles to derive the standard form of the equation of a sphere. Use the point P:(x,y,z), the radius R (this might be hard to see without zooming in) and center (x0,y0,z0).
