Second Derivative Traces
- Peter Johnston
Moving the point A along the curve traces out both the first and second derivative of the function. The initial function shown is . However, any function can be chosen by entering the definition into the input box at the bottom of the screen, for example 'f(x)=x^3' will yield a plot of the curve . Clicking the check boxes will display the complete first and second derivative curves, along with their expressions. The traces can be removed by adjusting the zoom on the frame and the original parabola can be restored by clicking on the reset button at the top right of the frame.
