Riemann Sum Value Locations

Description

The height and consequently area of rectangles for Riemann sums can be chosen in many ways. This applet illustrates some of the different choices. Selecting from the drop down list shows the location of the function used to determine the height of the rectangles as diamonds. The height of the rectangles adjust based on the position chosen. Common choices would be the left or right sides of the triangle. Special choices include the Upper and Lower sum where extreme values of the function within the domain of each rectangle are chosen for the height.
