Transformation: Rotation
With the original trapezoid, perform three rotations clockwise about the origin. Compare the ordered pairs of each image with the preimage.
1. What effect does a rotation of 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees have on the ordered pairs of the pre-image?
2. If a point is at (-3, 6), what would the coordinates of the image be after a 180 degree rotation around the origin? Explain.
3. How can knowing the quadrant of the new image help with the signs of the x- and y- coordinates? (Example: If the image is in quadrant 2, what will the signs of the x- and y-coordinates be?)
