Hyperbola as a Vector Sum

I'm working on a problem from chemistry (Scratchard Graphs) that finds a hyperbola as a vector sum of two lines. This sketch takes two lines and finds the hyperbola. What I want is to be able to find the equation of the hyperbola from the equations of the lines. (Stuck for now.)
