Basic Geometric Definitions (B2W1D2)

Study your B1W1 Vocabulary. It is very important to understand and use your Geometry Vocabulary. Use the core definitions on this worksheet and your B1W1 Vocabulary to answer the practice questions.
Core Definitions
The core definitions in Geometry are point, line, plane and congruence.
A point is an exact location in space. It describes a location, but has no size.

Example Points

Example Points
Image
A line if infinitely many points that extend forever in both directions. Lines have direction and location and are always straight.

Example of a line

Example of a line

A plane is a flat surface that contains infinitely connected points that extend forever in all directions. Think of a plane as a huge sheet of paper with no thickness that extends in all directions without end.

Two objects are congruent if they have the same dimensions and shape. Very loosely, you can think of it as meaning 'equal' but it has a very precise meaning that you should understand completely, especially for complex shapes such as polygons.

Congruent symbol

Congruent symbol
If A and B are two objects being compared, then (A B) the statement is read 'A is congruent to B'.
