Complex Multiplication 6

You are going to multiply the number in B1 with each number in column A. Enter your answers in the corresponding cells in column B. Your answers will also be shown automatically in the diagram.
Variation in the task:
  • You may change the numbers in column A (this can be done by dragging the blue dots or changing the numbers in the spreadsheet cells), or even add some numbers, in order to create your own shape before the practice.
  • You may change the number in B1 or repeat the practice with another column C by choosing your own multiplier in C1.

Notes for Teachers

  • This can be a merely a practice in complex number multiplication (without calculator) or part of an exploratory task.
  • When this is done in GeoGebra classroom, answers from different students can be easily visualised and compared, paying attention to the overall pattern instead of merely correctness of individual calculations.
  • If students are encouraged to change the multiplicands (column A numbers) or the multipliers (row 1 numbers), there could be richer discussion about the variety and similarity in their results.
  • To speed up the process of experimenting, we can enter standard spreadsheet formulas (such as "=A2*$B$1") to create the products and drag the movable points in the diagram.
