Squinch in Friday mosque of Golpayegan

Ali Reza Sarvdalir elaborates an example and refers to the Friday Mosque of Golpayegan. This time, he emphasizes the curved surfaces and gives an example of a cut-out sheet to produce these curved surfaces. Mamoun Sakkal emphasizes the concentric, layered construction and the octagon. The squinch is just one quarter of the whole circle. Our animation applet shows the design of this muqarnas. Mamoun Sakkal describes the construction of a muqarnas by means of circular layers, starting from top going down to the bottom. The first ring contains sharp rhombuses pointing to the center. The second ring contains squares. The third ring contains wide rhombuses.
