OBJECTIVE:To learn how to subtract integers

In a previous lesson, you learned how to ADD integers. Summing It Up: https://www.geogebra.org/m/ryw5cfbm In this lesson, you're going to learn how to SUBTRACT them. To subtract two integers, switch the sign of the SUBTRAHEND (the second number) and then add to the MINUEND (the first number). Make sure to observe the cases—SAME signs or DIFFERENT signs.
Use the applet below for practice. Instructions: 1. Position the WHITE DOT of the BOTTOM arrow at the ORIGIN ( 0 ). 2. SWITCH the direction of the TOP arrow. 3. Drag the WHITE DOT of the TOP arrow to coincide with the arrowhead of the BOTTOM arrow. 4. The NUMBER (or COORDINATE) under the arrowhead of the TOP arrow is the ANSWER. Repeat as many times as necessary to master the concept.

TRY IT!

NOW LET'S TAKE AWAY THE NUMBER LINE!

In this lesson, you learned how to subtract integers.

In future lessons, you'll learn how to perform other operations on integers. Hope you ENJOYED today's lesson!
