Ratio - KS3 resources

MEI has adapted the following resources for use in the UK classroom. The Ratio set of resources contains four units. Each unit includes a series of lessons comprising a GeoGebra activity for use during the lesson and a GeoGebra activity suitable for independent student learning. Each lesson also comes with a lesson plan detailing the planning behind each question in the activities, together with the answers. Using GeoGebra Classroom, teachers are able to monitor and formatively assess their students’ work and progress in real time on any type of device. If you wish to view the resources in their original state, please visit Illustrative Mathematics (IM).

Ratio 1 - Introducing ratios In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “ratio,” “rate,” “equivalent ratios,” “per,” “at this rate,” “constant speed,” and “constant rate,” and to recognize when two ratios are or are not equivalent. Ratio 2 - Unit rates and percentages In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “unit rate,” “speed,” “pace,” “percent,” and “percentage,” and recognize that equivalent ratios have equal unit rates. Ratio 3 - Scale drawings

In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “scaled copy,” “to scale,” “scale factor,” “scale drawing,” and “scale,” and recognize when two pictures or plane figures are or are not scaled copies of each other. Ratio 4 - Proportional relationships and percentages In this unit, students use ratios, scale factors, unit rates (also called constants of proportionality), and proportional relationships to solve multi-step, real-world problems that involve fractions and percentages.
