Coordinates and Geometry

Author:
Jan Mays
Triangle ABC has vertices A(1,1), B(4,7), C(7,1).
  1. Plot the points on the coordinate grid. Use the polygon tool to make the vertices into a triangle.
  2. What kind of triangle is ABC? Explain your reasoning.
  3. Plot the midpoints of sides AC and BC. Note the coordinates of the midpoints. How do they relate to the endpoints of the segment?
  4. Construct the segment connecting these midpoints. Find the slopes of AB and the segment joining the midpoints. What do you notice? What does this tell you about the two segments?
  5. What other questions might be investigated about this triangle?
