Let's take a look at the area model example below. You probably saw something like this in elementary or middle school. In algebra 1 we use the area model in our quadratics unit...but because of Covid some of you may not have learned it, so we're doing a mini lesson today. You definatly know how to find area of rectangle: length x width. We use area of a rectangle as a model for multiplying 2 numbers together. We don't know the answer to 27 x 35 in our head, but we can think of those as the dimensions of a rectangle and then decompose 27 into 20 + 7 and 35 into 30 + 5.
