CTMT - Lines and Equations - Introduction

In this activity, you will learn about lines and their equations. In particular, you will discover the graphic interpretation of the slope of a line and its intercept. The slope of a line gives you an impression of how steep or how flat a line is. The intercept is the y-coordinate of the intersection point of the line with the y-axis. Try to work through these three items in order to get familiar with the concept of slope and intercept of a line.

Item 1: Drag the points A and B so that the equation of the line (AB) matches the target equation.

In the next item , you will have to work with a line which passes through the origin. Its equation is hence given by: Try to adjust the value for m, so that the line passes through the target point.

Item 2 : Enter a value for the slope of the line so that the line passes through the target point.

Item 3: Enter values for the slope m and the intercept c so that the line will pass through points A and B.
