Portions of a Sphere
Definitions
- Spherical cap: each of the two parts into which a spherical surface is divided by a secant plane.
- Spherical segment (one base): each of the two parts into which a sphere is divided by a secant plane.
- Spherical zone: the portion of a spherical surface included between two parallel secant planes.
- Spherical segment (two bases): the portion of a sphere included between two parallel secant planes.
- Spherical sector: the part of a sphere bounded by a spherical cap and the surface of a right circular cone whose base coincides with the base circle of the cap, and whose vertex is the center of the sphere.
- Spherical lune: the intersection of a spherical surface with a dihedral angle whose edge (line of intersection of the planes) passes through the center of the sphere.
- Spherical wedge (solid lune): the intersection of a sphere with a dihedral angle whose edge passes through the center of the sphere.
