I an orienting the axes so the y-axis is vertical and the z-axis is hidden, like as shown in the figures in the text.
Using the input box on the side, the graphics window is much wider than needed.

What if you just used the INPUT BAR and gave explicit instructions to enter your function starting with

Well...it appears the input bar does not show up in the 3D window.
