Dilations GP
DILATION NOTES
* The enlargement or reduction of a figure.
* The scale factor indicates how much the figure will enlarge or reduce.
* Variable for scale factor: k
* When k < 1, the figure gets smaller
* When k = 1, the figure stays the same size
* When k > 1, the figure gets larger
* Dilations results in SIMILAR FIGURES
Problem 1
Graph each figure and its image under the given dilation.
Triangle ABC with vertices A(-3, 4), B(2, 1), C(-1, -5): scale factor (k) = 2.
What are the new coordinates of A', B', and C'? Type your answer as A'(n,n) B'(n,n) C'(n,n)
Problem 2
Graph each figure and its image under the given dilation.
Parallelogram PQRS with vertices P(2, 3), Q(4, 3), R(3, 1), S(1, 1): scale factor (k) = 3
What are the new coordinates of P', Q', R', S'? Type your answer as P'(n,n) Q'(n,n) R'(n,n) S'(n,n)
Problem 3
Graph each figure and its image under the given dilation.
Square EFGH with vertices E(4,-4), F(6,-4), G(6,-6), H(4,-6): scale factor (k) = 1/2
What are the new coordinates of E'F'G'H'? Type your answer as E'(n,n) F'(n,n) G'(n,n) H'(n,n)
Problem 4
Graph each figure and its image under the given dilation.
Trapezoid TUVW with vertices T(-9,3), U(0,3), V(0,-3), W(-6,-3): scale factor (k) = 1/3.
What are the new coordinates of T'U'V'W'? Type your answer as T'(n,n) U'(n,n) V'(n,n) W'(n,n)
Problem 5
Graph each figure and its image under the given dilation.
Triangle XYZ with vertices X(0,2), Y(4,6), Z(8,0): scale factor (k) = 3/2.
