Quadratic Functions (standard & vertex forms)

This file allows students to experiment with the values a, b, c, h, and k to determine their effects on the graph. It will allow students to see the importance of vertex form.
Experiment with various values for a, b, c, h, and k. (Do not use a=0). You are to think about how the graph changes as you change each value. 1) Which form (standard or vertex) behaves in a more predictable way by changing the values? 2) Which form would be easier to predict the shape of the graph? 3) Think about the function f(x) = 2x^2 - 3x - 2. Can you predict where the vertex will be? Use the sliders to graph this function. 4) Think about the function f(x) = 2(x - 3)^2 + 5. can you predict where the vertex will be? Use the sliders to graph this function.
