The hypotenuse is the longest side, or the side across from the right angle.
Adjacent means "the leg next to a particular acute angle." Abbreviated as "adj".
Opposite means "the leg across from a particular angle." Abbreviated as "opp".
You need to have a particular angle of interest before you can name the adjacent & opposite sides.
