Quadrilateral Area

Here's a cool problem I found on the Five Triangles 'blog here: http://bit.ly/19SyE5N.
From the construction, you can see that the quadrilateral's area is fixed.
The construction allows you to vary the shape of the triangle, and thereby the quadrilateral, but its area remains fixed.
WHY?
