Algebra - KS3 resources
MEI has adapted the following resources for use in the UK classroom. The Algebra set of resources contains five units. Each unit includes a series of lessons comprising a GeoGebra activity for use during the lesson and a GeoGebra activity suitable for independent student learning. Each lesson also comes with a lesson plan detailing the planning behind each question in the activities, together with the answers. Using GeoGebra Classroom, teachers are able to monitor and formatively assess their students’ work and progress in real time on any type of device. Algebra 1 - Expressions and equations In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “variable,” “coefficient,” “solution,” “equivalent expressions,” “exponent,” “independent variable,” and “dependent variable.” Algebra 2 - Introducing proportional relationships In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “proportional,” “constant of proportionality,” and “proportional relationship,” and recognize when a relationship is or is not proportional. Algebra 3 - Expressions, equations and inequalities In this unit, students solve equations of the forms and where , , and are rational numbers. Algebra 4 - Linear relationships
In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “rate of change,” “linear relationship,” and “vertical intercept”. Algebra 5 - Linear equations and linear systems In this unit, students write and solve linear equations in one variable. These include equations in which the variable occurs on both sides of the equal sign, and equations with no solutions, exactly one solution, and infinitely many solutions.
