This Applet allows you to play with the parameters of the Poisson Distribution and the Binomial Distribution.
Answer the following questions:
[1] What is one similartiy between the Poisson Distribution and the Binomial Distribution?
[2] What happens to the Poisson Distribution as λ gets large? Why is this the case?
[3] For the Binomial Distribution, make n large and p small. Now move the Poissson Distribution (by moving the slider for λ) and try and line up the Poisson Distribution with the Binomial Distribution. How does the value for λ relate to the values of n and p? What does this tell us about the Poisson Distribtuion for large values of n and small values of p?
