Move the focus and directrix to any location. Turn on the TRACE button and drag point B along the directrix. The distance from the focus to the parabola (d1) and the distance from the directrix to the parabola (d2) stays equal.

Use this applet to explore both vertical and horizontal parabolas and to explore the characteristics of a parabola.
