Hitting the High Points

Are you aiming for the high points?

Are you aiming for the high points?

OBJECTIVE: To learn how to use the Point Tool to plot points and identify their coordinates on the Cartesian plane

In a previous lesson, you observed a dynamic illustration of how to plot points on the Cartesian plane. You also did an exercise where you were asked to plot points yourself, but without using the Toolbar. In this lesson, you're going to use one of Geogebra Classics's Toolbars to plot points on the Cartesian plane.

Instructions

1.Toolbar Image Click on the Point Toolbox and select the Point Tool. As long as Point Tool button is highlighted, the Point Tool is active and you can plot points.
2.Click on the six high points (pointed spires) of the main castle from left to right and observe how points C, D, E, F, G, and H are generated.
3.Toolbar ImageClick on the Move Toolbox and select the Move Tool. The Move Tool deactivates the Point Tool (or whatever tool is active.) It can then be used to select or move objects.
4. Use the Move Graphics View tool to click and drag the background of the Graphics View. Use the Zoom In tool and the Zoom Out tool to get a better perspective of your geometric construction. You may also use the corresponding icons at the bottom right corner of the applet or the scroll wheel of the mouse to zoom in or out.
5.Click on point C or any of the other points you plotted. Then click on the  Style Bar button.
6.Toolbar ImageClick on the Set Label Style button and select Name and Value. Then click on Lock to Fix Object in place.
7.Repeat Steps 5 and 6 to the other points. Labels can be moved if they get too crowded.
8.Optional: You may also Set Color and Set Point Style using the buttons in the  Style Bar.

QUESTION: Write down the coordinates of all the points (A - H).

TODAY you learned how to plot points on the Cartesian plane and label them.

In the future, you'll learn how to do more complicated geometric constructions. ENJOY your experience!
