Learning outcomes

The outcomes of completing this unit could be: You can use the correct language to describe parts of the circle. You may make links between visual proofs without words and formal written proofs. You can collaborate effectively with your peers whilst engaging in hands-on activities and discussion to deepen their understanding of formal proofs and improve critical thinking skills in the context of geometry. You can understand and apply the fundamental principles governing the properties and relationships of circles, arcs, and angles through the study of Circle theorems. You will develop your skills in constructing clear and rigorous proofs for Circle theorems using logical reasoning and deductive arguments. You will explore the historical significance of geometry by studying Euclid’s Elements and gaining an understanding of the logical structure and deductive reasoning behind Euclid’s geometric arguments and the impact they have had on the mathematics we study today. You will gain knowledge of the Book of Lemmas, attributed to Archimedes, and its contribution to problem-solving strategies in geometry. .
