Open Middle Trapezoid Area Problem: Choose Your Own Fixed Perimeter
Creation of this resource was inspired by an Open Middle problem by Patrick McGowan.
Given a right trapezoid with fixed perimeter, determine the dimensions of such a trapezoid for which its area is maximum.
Here, you can set your own fixed perimeter before exploring. Move the LARGE POINTS to create various trapezoids with the perimeter you set. If the trapezoid disappears, make it smaller so it reappears.
What maximum possible area did you find for a right trapezoid with this fixed perimeter? What were the dimensions of this trapezoid?
