Understanding Quadrilaterals

Drag any of the named vertices (A,B,C.ETC..) to change the quadrilateral. The the square and rectangle will always stay a rectangle and a square. You can change the size and orientation of the shapes in order to understand there properties. This can be used in a K-2 classroom setting 3.G.A.1 Reason with shapes and their attributes. 1. Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides),and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g.quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Students need to move shapes around and explore these quadrilaterals. Students need to be able to distinguish between the different quadrilaterals. Students need to see if they can change one quadrilateral to a different quadrilateral.
