Two-Step Equations Reteach

How to Solve Two-Step Equations

Your goal in solving two-step equations is to isolate the variable in the equation. This means that you want to get the letter by itself on one side of the equation, and all of the numbers on the opposite side.

Tips

  • Work backwards with the order of operations: Reverse PEMDAS
  • Use multiplication or subtraction to remove constants
  • Use multiplication or division to remove a coefficient from a variable
  • What you do to one side, you must do to the other!
